(Mods - If this should be moved elsewhere, please move it. Thanks.)
I decided to paint my new drums before they rust, and while I was at it I painted my TB too. I found something ugly while I was in there. Somehow the clip holding my PCM wiring fell out of the hole in the TB that held it up, and it has been sitting against the hot exhaust. Luckily, only the outer plastic tube was damaged and the wires inside were fine.

I taped around the hole and secured it back up with a strong cable tie. My dad had an electrical fire in his car (95 Hyundai Accent) not too long ago, so this kind of hit home for me. Please make sure your wires are safe and in good condition.

Here'* a couple pics of my work. Just plain black for the drums and TB.

No pics of the drums on the car yet, sorry.

actually, the temp sender(IIRC) for the guages on a 95-earlier 3100(and likely earlier 60V6 motors as well) motor runs in between the EGR stovepipe and the head. good thing the loom acts as a heat shield, or else i would have seen the same problem you did.

hope you got high temp paint on the drums though, or at least plan on occasionally touching them up.

Yupp, I used 500 degree engine paint and a layer of 500 degree clear coat on top of that. I had a few cans laying around after my last paint project.
