Default Does anybody have the specs on the OEM Coil Packs.

I was wondering if anybody has the specs for the stock coil packs that come on our cars. I am looking at upgrading to the MSD coil packs and would like to compare the specs.

This is what I found on the MSD-8224 Coil packs

Specifications:
* Primary resistance: 35 ohms
* Secondary resistance: 7.8K ohms
* Maximum voltage: 40,000 V
* Inductance: 4.2 mH
* Turns ratio: 80:1

There'* a coil pack troubleshooting guide up in Techinfo with the primary and secondary resistance. You can 'assume' the number of turns by the resistance differences on the MSD'* to the Delco.....and the turns ratio from simple math (a little algebra).

You'll have to remove the coils from the car to test them.

Check resistance between the primary coils. It should be between 0.5 and 0.9 ohms. The secondaries should be between 5k and 8k.

Here'* the pinout for secondaries......on the top (plug wire terminals) read 1-4, 5-2, and 3-6. Easy?
This is what the techinfo states. I am confused. Wouldn't lower resistances be better. This states that the primary should be be 0.5 - 0.9 ohms where the MSD is 35 ohms. Also what about voltage.

And now that I am on the subject what is this for.
Jegs calls these MSD GM DIS Ignition Controls

I thought these coil packs just mounted right on without any mods.

Here is what I am looking at.

I wouldn't even bother upgrading the coil packs. The stockers are just fine.
