Do I have Keyless Entry?

I purchased a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am SE a few weeks ago as a second car, to give the Bonneville a little rest. The car did not come with any keyless entry remotes, and I simply assumed that the car was not equipped with keyless entry. However, two times now I have exited the car and locked the doors, only to have the lights flash and horn toot a few moments after I closed the door…such as a confirmation you receive when you lock with a keyless entry remote. I’m starting to wonder if I’m simply missing the remotes, as commonly happens with used cars. My question is: How do I know if this Grand Am is equipped with a Keyless Entry System, and I’m just missing the remotes?

You should have a code on the underside of the spare tire cover( this is where you will find the RPO code listing ) AU0 will be the code for keyless entry ;)

Thanks! Just looked and I do NOT have the AU0 code on the label.

What would make it flash the lights and toot the horn? LOL!

Thanks again.

OEM keyless on GM cars and trucks don't flash and honk.

Somebody aftermarketed something on that car.

On the later models the lights do flash to let you know you have locked the doors.. And they also have a Pannic button/function...

But yeah it seems like something is up with this car... Start looking for some extra spliced in wires...

Look for an extra aftermarket module above the driver's side hushpanel.

GM vehicles after 96 with remote do flash once and if you press the button a second time they honk as well. They added this as a confirmation that the vehicle locked. Versus the prior models that would only turn on the interior lights. (Not visible during the day.)

I am thinking this GA is flash/honking as a confirmation of lock upon a possible second press or certain time length press of the button. My suggestion would be to double check the owners manual.

Not all GM vehicles after 96, and it dictates that you need keyless for that function for those that do, and he already stated he doesn't have the RPO.

Maybe it is something to do with an alarm system.
conformation that the alarm is on. When he uses the key to unlock
the doors the alarm is disingaged???????

My 98 flashes and honks when I push the lock button (once). it's programmable, tho. You can set different types of feddback. Instructions are in the owner's manual.

Looks like another case where we can't say they do or don't being that with the remotes as John (at least one of us read his manual :2thumbup: ) stated it's programmable.

The last 5 GM vehicles I have gotten that were 96+ and had the remote all behaved the same. They all apparently had a factory default setting. One press of remote was flash, a second press got flash and honk.

Since the GA does not have the remote RPO, I would still go for a double check of the owners manual to see if there is a programmable or built in feature causing the behavior.

Why don't you just have a GM dealer run the VIN to tell you if the car originally had keyless entry?

moustang 12-01-2005 07:56 PM

I'll have the GM dealer look into this for me. I didn't get an owners manual with the car, so that is why I started asking here first. It had a bunch of codes on that label, and AU0 was not one of them. I'll let you guys know what the wonderful people at the garage tell me after they rape some money out of me for allowing me the pleasure of talking to them.

 partscounter guy: No you dont have one
Moustang: ok thanks
partscounter guy: that will be $49.95

:o

Funny one Gumball.

That is exactly the kind of service I get here at the local dealers. I know people that say they love their dealer, but ALL of them i've been too don't seem to give a flip about helping anyone unless they are from another business or have a warranty repair or something.
