Discuss Your 1992-1999 Pontiac Bonneville (NOW SE/SLE TOO)
I love my car! That pretty much sums it all up. I didn't know how many different mods that are easily available to this car. Little changes make a big difference especially cosmetic! But the ride is smooth... unlike the newer Grand Prix which sits on more of a sporty frame, with this car you don't feel every little bump going down the street like you're in a box on wheels! Let alone the engine is reliable. Although there are some parts in the transmission that changed over in 96 or 97 and aren't as reliable as the older ones due to thiner metal that causes them to fail and grind gears. I found that out when I had to spend $1,400 to have it rebuilt last week. Other than that I should get many more years out of this car, unless god forbid I total it, in which it is a very safe car I won't eat my knee caps like in a little Saturn or Ford!

Due yourself a favor......
1) DO NOT BUY A 95......You will tear your hair out with have the **** that these cars occasionally pull once the miles start getting up there. It'* also that OBD 1-2 Bs that sucks, you can't chip it really.
2) Try to see if you get one with a recent trans rebuild or a low mile car, these cars (especially the SSEI'*) tear the hell out of the trannies in these things.
3)Look at how well they age though? I'm at just a few miles under 214K now, and she looks new after a good wax/buff session:


And that'* also a Minnesota owned car, except it spent 50K in Illinois, still a snow/salt state.

I am starting to open up and look at the Bonneville SE and SLE models as well. Now how do these ride in comparison to the SSE and SSEI? Is the handling still reasonably sporty? How is the steering, Is it light like a buick park ave or lesabre? Soft ride like a lesabre?

have a 98 SLE and it handles pretty damn good. Actually it rides a little too nice even in turns. I've managed to get myself a few tickets because of it.
to make a comparison between a bonneville and a PA or a LeSabre...a LeSabre is a Bonneville in disguise. Its like the bonneville'* father, more refined, softer suspension, etc...as for the bonneville being the son of that....all rambunctious, and etc...

See I would have thought a Bonneville SE would be like a lesabre Grand Touring, because of them both being H-Bodies and that they woudl be both as refined, so no? How is the Bonneville SE not as refined?
