Default Demo motors?

what exactly is a demo engine? my motor seized but the mechanic (a family friend) said can get me a demo motor, brand new on a crate and wrapped in plastic for little or nothing, around $100 if that.
he said that demo motors arent complete and do need some internals, but we could use some parts from my seized engine.
is this true? ive never heard of it before but he said its deffinately the best way to go because its a new motor never turned over and i could have it for under a grand installed.

Does he mean a test engine from GM? It was run on a stand for a while for durability testing, etc.

Agreed, especially if you were told that it is missing some internal parts. But I'd find out more from your friend (or his source for the engine) before handing over any cash!

Demo motor around here means a engine out of a DEMOlished car. But that doesn't explain the "new and on a pallet" (it does explain the price)

At one of the better boneyards around here, everything of value is stripped of the car, and marked. In the case of Motors, they are palletized, and stored on racks.

Are you sure about the new part?

If it seems to good to be true, it probably is. But, I have bought used engines, from wrecked cars, that have been good deals. (Pretty low miles and affordable)

Good Luck.

hehe, for sale, cheap, v8 engine, runs good, crank and 2 rods missing, best offer

seriously, once R&D gets done testing and developing stuff, its not outta the question that they would auction/sell it
