Default DAMN CURSE I TELL YA!!!

Well fuel pump was changed and it works fine, I looked at the old one and you can see one of the contacts on it was turning black like it was overheating.

NOW

I drove it today and a noise I had noticed while in T.O. was a bit louder, and kept getting louder( not the fuel pump). Drove it right back to the garage.

Sounded like a pulley or bearing or something. He took a look at it and figured either water pump ( since it was feeling kind rough while the belt was off) or the harmonic balancer.

We put the belt back on and this time turned the power steering pulley and the belt turned but the center of the balancer did not. So the outside spins till it hits the limits but the inside stays put. I will get the word tomorrow on cost of a new harmonic balancer. It is pretty simple to change but will let them do it.

Anyone have an idea of the cost of a harmonic balancer off hand???

P.*. driving it toady after that long trip to T.O. the car seemed to be a little bit more responsive, I think it needed it. MSD wires will hopefully get installed this weekend.

Yep she will be new soon. It has 182,000 kms on it so I just call it wear and tear. Hey at least it made the trip there and back with no (major) problems except weather, LOL.

I hear that the harmonic balancer is not cheap. The other thing to that didn't help was all the previous owners. It was a lease more than once I think. It still had the original wires on it when we bought ti and it looked like the oil hadn't been changed in years. Plus after we bought it, it sat for another 1.5 years till we got it on the road. So wear and tear and age hell it IS 14 years old, LOL.

Hey Mike, sorry to hear about that.
Sorry to break it to you like this, but with them installing it you can expect around $300 American for the balancer and install.
That'* what they charged when my parents had the harmonic balancer put on their 1992 Park Avenue last year.
Good luck and let us know how it works.

It is the cost of the balancer that I am worried about. The owner of the shop is calling around to try and get me one NOT from the dealer to save me some $$$. And for labor I don't expect more than an hour. They treat me pretty good there. I have probably saved about 1,000$ in labor so far from all the work that was done to get it on the road till now.

Well, if that'* the case have him install a new crank sensor while the balancer is off. Seems as though the cranks sensors go very often on the Series I (1988-1994) 3800'*. We've had to replace them on almost every Series I 3800 that we've had (I have had to replace them on all my 1992-1994 Bonneville'*).
Just a suggestion.

P.*. It sure is nice to have a shop that gives us options and considers our financial well-being.

Crank senssor was one of the first sensors that was changed while it was getting the major overhaul to get on the road.

So the crank sensor is done
02 Sensor
Cam sensor and magnet
now the harmonic balancer.

one of these days we will run out of parts to change. I guess the only reason, well 2 reasons we keep the car is
1 we both love the car.
2 we only paid about 800 for it, LOL.
