If the police pull you over to ask why you were speeding...ask him to kindly check the licence plate!

Somewhere in Illinois is a champagne-beige SSEi with plates reading "MY WINGS"

Mine reads "I BYTE." It'* caused some adventures...

I've had them since 1984 (okay, well in 1984 I thought it was riotously funny) on my cars, including a Trans Am, two Cutlasses in succession, and currently the SSEi.

So anyway, early in the evening the phone rings, and it'* my brother in law. "Your car is going to be on the Ten O'Clock News!"

(Quick check out the front window. Yup, Bonneville'* still there.) "Um, why?"

"They're doing a feature story on unusual vanity plates, and they showed yours in a promo for the Ten O'Clock News! Better watch!"

So throughout the rest of the evening, we sort of knew when Channel 2 had run another promo for the late news, because seconds later we'd get a call from some friend or relative who'd just fallen out of their chair in surprise. A _lot_ of people know these plates.

I found a blank videotape and set up a VCR to tape, and sure enough, there was my plate in the story on vanity plates. Damn, I wonder where they'd found it. Must have been in a parking lot at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, IL, perhaps -- Channel 2 loves to go out there because it'* close to the expressway and they can get in and out real quick.

They'd filmed mine in extreme closeup at a funky angle -- you couldn't see anything of the car, just "I BYTE" filling the whole screen -- but then as we watched, the narrator said something like "Some plates reveal a more aggressive attitude" (uh-oh, now what...?) and they faded from my license plate into an interview with (I swear) a Doctor Sheldon Greenburg from something-or-other Hospital, who droned on for a while about how you weren't supposed to antagonize drivers who pick out "aggressive" license plates because you never know what they might do. Yes! Mess with me and ... um... I'll make your software all buggy, or something. (Microsoft users will never know the difference... )

So there you have it. My 15 Minutes of Fame, and it goes to my car.

oh, don't put yourself down like that... i am sure with a "little" work you will soon be making fast work of those pesky 850'*, M5, M3, and M coupes... but seriously you can take anything with a S70/2 engine in it (anyone here other than myself know that engine???)
I wouldn't say putting myself down, just being careful of how and who I boast too. The rice is already in the bag, just haven't had a chance to race a "nice" v8 number yet.

As for the "little work", I already got new SC parts on their way and am looking in to a few other goodies too.
Hmm... who said anything about V-8'*??? I only menitioned 1. The M3'* and M coupes, use I-6'*, and the 850'* use V-12'*. As for the S70/2 engine... Ever heard of the McLaren F1??? Yup, that'* a BMW S70/2 engine in there.
