Yeah, it will downshift quick when you take your foot off the gas at 70-80mph especially. I've done that before, and then hit the gas right after, and it will jolt up into gear again. I now ease off the gas, and ease back into it. You shouldn't have anything to worry about

You get used to it after a while, my 91 did the samething... I think GM has a name for it, 'automatic sports shifting' or something weird like that... to explain why it happens. The GM name for it would be from late 80s to early 90s. I remember a friend talking about it a long time ago.

When you take your foot of the gas the torque converter unlocks. Then when you put it back on the gas, it is still unlocked until everything becomes consistent, then it locks up.

If you are feeling a big shudder when it locks up again, you may want to check the integrity of your transmission fluid. The torque converter may be having trouble locking up.
