They are reliable.

If you dont mind fixing the windows, steering shaft, and hood paint.

Other problems are shared by any car like failures in transmissions.

What problems has yours had other than the windows, steering shaft or hood bubbling?

I could have saved you the 3 or 4 bucks you spent on your "Consumer Crappy Reports" issue if you just went to the 2000-2005 Forum up here and read the sticky on known problems! Thing is tho, what cars don't have problems.......at least you can use the resources available to you up here to know what your getting into with a problem, and whether or not its serious. I have had my share of repairs to this car, but I love my 00 Bonnie and wouldn't trade it (unless someone gave me a ridiculous deal on a newer year!).

A lot of the known issues with our cars can be repaired by do-it-your-selfers......hell even I fixed some of my issues and I'm no rocket scientist!

Yea thanks alot first off for not giving me crap..but same with me I love my car but wish I didn't have all these problems, I mean hell its back into the shop again. Feels like I get my car for a week then next back in shop. Just hoping it'll be done soon.

One question I wanted to always know tho. I have a 01 Se...Now the SLE how they have there doors and bumper. Would I be able to use those sam doors and back bumper on mine? I always loved the doors on them and back bumper then my Se. The front bumper I'm starting to like. But can you switch doors?

I hear ya. The 3800 will last a long time, as will the rest of the drivetrain, but these cars always seem to have a lot of little problems. My GP has had quite a few little problems ... nothing to stop the car from functioning, but enough to make it annoying.

I think all those little things are what hurt the ratings on these cars.

Yes. A molded plastic applique piece is adhered to the doors on SLE, SSEi'* to give that affect. You would also have to get the rocker panel pieces.

Consumer reports is known to be very biased about cars (ironic since they supposedly stand by their non-biased stance). They tend to lean towards Japanese cars, which is probably why they're so popular; so many people read that magazine and trust it with their lives. So, lesson is, don't depend on non-car magazines for car reviews

CR has always been very "if you can't measure it, it doesn't exist". They don't consider "WOW!" factor. They don't consider that you can take an L36 and with very basic care and incredibly inexpensive mods, have the mpg and more fun than an equally outfitted Camry. Except bigger and for a heck of a lot less money.

Their evals never take into consideration the owner who participates in his/her ownership of the car. To them cars are toasters. They would never try to fix their own toaster.

They are excellent at evaluating commodities. But should be shelved when there is a subjective experience involved.

IMHO.

Admittedly, I consult Consumer Reports online for buying a coffee maker, toaster, or other small, disposable household item that I simply don't have time to research.

But I totally agree with Charliemax that Consumer Reports is aimed at the lowest common denominator, i.e., today'* average American, i.e., a person who doesn't know squat, can't do squat, and doesn't even care.
