Who said you had to abuse it? I seen unmarked cars in D.C that just sat their taking pictures in speed traps(including mine). Those cars don't have to chase anyone.

They have heavily upgraded alternators and wiring for all of the accessories. Other things like tranny and oil coolers are beefed up as well IIRC.

The cops in my city used to drive 89 and 83 bonnevilles. Those were some hammered bonnies. All of them had the fog lights blown out from the cop driving.

They'll use almost anything, I knew a while ago of an Integra GSR the state troopers near me had- they would try to goad you into racing, if you bit, the teg pulled you over...

Also in FL, idk if they still run them but they had Reinhart-modified Mercury MArauders as interceptors for a while. Imagine one of them coming after you...

About the wierdest cop car I've seen around here was an older model Datsun 240Z. I think it was mainly a show car, but still cool.

I used to live in San Antonio, TX. I did alot of works with cops and got to see a special one one night. DPS commisioned Rousch racing to build a car to catch street racers. It was a 92 mustang built to hell and back. One night they had a crusier go past the Schertz exit on 35 as fast as possible. When the cruiser (either Caprice or VIc dont remember) passed the exit the Stang pulled out. It caught the car before it was out of sight. Only draw back it only got 6 mpg. It was an accident I got to see this but it was awesome. I was going to work and saw a cop friend sitting there along highway in personal car and I stopped because I thought something was wrong. 4 am no one around and then two cars went flying by. Mustang sounded awesome. I hate to admit that because at the time I had a Formula 350 stroked to 383 so I hated Mustangs

That'* common here. Bowie County has a half ton chevy and Red River County has a fourth gen. both 454.
