Ok so heres a new experience, to provide a little comedy for y'all. Ok so I was driving along and I hit a bump and the stereo shut off, and the Electronic climate control was gone, no a/c no outside temp, no clock on the radio... nothin. So I get in the fuse box, fuse #11 is blown, and I think oh no...theres a short somewhere, but I hope not, because tracing shorts is a freaking nightmare! So I put in a new fuse hoping that its nothing serious. 7 hours later I was driving to the store and happened to hit a rather gnarley pothole and out they go again. So at this point im thinking oh man... what am I gunna do? And its dark, so I turn on the map light and there I see it... there is a bolt in my cigarette lighter port (I don't smoke so my ashtray is a catchall for change and assorted junk) Pulled that out of there, put the lighter back in the hole (was sitting in the ashtray because I had been using the port for my cell charger) and viola' no more blown fuses... but jeeze what a scare for something so silly!

I would have been horrified. It'* good that you got this sorted out because as you said, tracing wires is really nightmarish.

I recently removed my dash to change a fuse...

Does that count?

My daughter had a cell charger plugged into her lighter outlet, and apparently bumped it at some point. It broke down inside the outlet and a piece from it caused the same problem. Never would have figured it out, but I pulled the charger out and noticed it then. I also have heard of similar problem where people put coins in their ashtray and have the lighter removed. Coin slips into the outlet and shorts out. :(

Oh JEES, yeah, I remember doing that a buncha times Bad place for that outlet/lighter if you ask me! Stuff would always fall in that damn thing, pennies, nuts (metal), etc. Kept blowin a fuse until I figured out what it was and just left my charger plugged in at all times.

Glad yah figured it out, it can be QUITE annoying.
