From my experience, a CAI can improve more than just your gas mileage. It also helps the engine breathe better, thus performing better, as well as staying cooler, allowing the engine a much longer life. There are many reasons to do it, and I have been happy as can be since I did mine. The added benefit of your engine sounding a little stronger is also cool.

I was also wanting to invest into a CAI, because I'm not real mechanically inclined when it comes to my bonneville. I just want a little better gas mileage, and the extra hp would just be icing on the cake. Mine is plenty powerful stock(ok, not super powerful, but definately enough to get her scootin along )

What is the cheapest way to go with this route of installing a CAI?

(Sorry for the thread-hijack< but it seemed like an appropriate place to jump in )

I picked up a couple mpgs even with my hot air intake...definitely worth it. The sound is an excellent bounus as well. I didn't get any noticeable performance though.

The thing is, no matter what else you might do to the engine, if it can't breathe because of a restrictive intake, it just won't go any faster. A good intake is the basis for all other mods.

Do you have the 2.97 or 3.33 ratio?

In any even it will improve the Bottom and Midrange Pull... I like it on my 91 LE, and thats with the 2.84 gears
Yeah, I'm a real noob. There is no way that I know this. All I know is that it is a SSE with a 3.8 and a 4 speed. Thats as far as I know, but I'm all ears for learnin!
