Default closed Dealer auto auctions - what does it mean?

If a car with very low miles (under 10K) is sold at two auto auctions before offered for sale at a dealership, what exactly does that mean? Was the car a lemon? Was the car an abused rental? Was it wrecked, fixed, and quickly traded? Does anyone have any experience with these closed GM auctions. Should I be afraid of a vehicle from them? What is a GM Customer Buyback Vehicle?
I have located two GXP'* that are the perfect cars at a great price with low mileage. The problem is that both these cars came through these auctions, before the dealers got them. One of them went through two auctions. I'm nervous.

A Buyback is just that - one that they bought back due to a dissatisifed customer. Also known as a "lemon law" vehicle. I don't thing I'd go that route. A rental would show up on the history such as a Carfax. Be careful and ask for documentation; if they can't or won't provide it, PASS!

The carfax show "private owner" for the first 9000 miles. Then "auto auction" for owner number 2 for 1000 miles. Then "auto auction" for owner number 3 for 1000 miles. Now a dealer has it for sale with 12,000 miles on it. Should I shy away, or is there a sure way to tell if its been through hell and back?

i wouldnt give it much thought personally, its probably because the dealers cant sell the gxp for **** and they gave up on it. my moms old saturn went thru dealer auctions and came from florida to il in one and it was a good car.

GXP'* didn't sell at some dealerships. I was offered one brand new for 19k. They offed them to wholesalers in some cases.

Is there any real way to determine if it was a lemon? I can usually tell body work but if it drives fine, how do you tell if it was a breakdown nightmare?

one thing you could do is acquire the service records from a GM dealer, if you give them the VIN number, they should be able to print out any warranty service records on the vehicle

that would give you an idea of what the previous owner/* went through with the car
