Hmmm...was it over $4,000?

Within the 1st year of owning our used '93 SSEi, I had to spend about $4400 for: a tranny, AC system, alternator, battery, brakes, and a few little things...and I did all repairs myself except the tranny replacement. And both I and a mechanic checked out this car before I bought it, so you never know what can break.

Since then (the last 3 years, for a total of 4 so far) it'* needed a supercharger, water pump, throttle body cleaning, and a few other little things. I replaced the supercharger with a used one myself, and replaced the water pump (new one) myself.

I didn't include the tuneup, tires, or gas costs...I plan on keeping it for several more years.

I guessed 3000 because my hubby and I would have easily spent that on our car (which we've had since late last August) if it hadn't been under warranty.

I spent over $5000 my first year but I had to "break" it in and that led to an engine change a new transaxle and a few million other parts.

Thus I was committed. Well and I actually own my car so abuse is just an excuse to make or buy new parts.

I've done worse... The car before the Bonne was a 1989 Lincoln Continental. I ended up spending over $5000 in less than a year on repairs alone. The two biggest ones were rear air shocks ($1200) followed by cracked head ($1700) less than 3 weeks later. And then there was the monthly trip to the shop that seem to grab $200-$300 each time...waterpump...ignition system...scan after scan...damn...I don't think that car had a part under $150 on it!

I feel for ya...

My bonnie now has 111,000 miles on it. I got it when it had 62k and i haven't put more than $1000 in repairs, probilby more like 700ish.
