Finally....after another round of searching I came up with this thread. Part number for a "barrier" for a '99 SSEI is 52472695. Looks like a '99 model in this thread has the same problem as the '96 and older years. I was hoping this problem was fixed on the later years.

I would like to hear from someone who has actually installed one of these. From the previous thread:

I've got more experience since then.

It is probably tough to do w the motor in place. However I think it was possible.

My 94 has the same issue as you guys. The 93 seems to be holding up rather well though.

It looks like a good opportunity for an aftermarket parts company. Manufacture a 3 piece replacement panel that can be installed and fastened together without pulling the engine. Dis-assmebling the old panel will be a piece of cake!

I just noticed that mine is falling apart on every corner. I can see insulation. I guess I'll try to patch it with some aluminum and tape. I guess all the heat we have been having has been causing this to turn to dust.

I have a '99 with the same problem. The plastic shroud covering the blower motor disintegrated in my hands. Also, the plastic air box under the maxifuse/relay center is falling apart.
