During the last Ice Age, about 15,000 years ago, Lake Bonneville was the size of Lake Michigan. It covered one-third of present day Utah and parts of neighboring states. Traces of shorelines can be seen, representing different levels of the receding lake, etched into the mountains surrounding the salt flats.

I think Bonneville is derived from the French words Bon with means good and ville which means town.........Good Town car.

I have told this story many times but when I bought my 2000 SSEi it was the first year of the new model and when I was in Los Angeles I went to THE car show and there was a GM exhibit showcasing the new SSEi. The display billboard advertised the following:
* - Safety......and listed all the special unique features of safety like the new Stabilitrak system, , that was first offered that year, anti-lock, traction controletc...
* - Security ....and listed all the special unique security features like the pass key, alarm system, etc....
E - Efficiency .... and listed the Supercharged engine and great fuel mileage, , etc.
i - intelligent..... and listed the computerized systems features..

Yes it was all sales hype and the true meaning is nothing more than a play on competing with the BMW xxxi models.
