Default Bonneville doors not metal??!!

I bought some vehicle magnets that go on the side of your car for advertising purposes. I apply the magnets and before I know it the driver'* side magnet is flying off into traffic. So I think that maybe I didn't clear off all the road grime and give it a good connection before I took off, and I do it again. The damn thing flies off yet again. Now, the passenger door magnet is fine, not even budging. So I think that something must be wrong with the magnet, because the other one works! I call up FedEx Kinkos bitching and they make me another magnet. SAME THING HAPPENS!

Upon some testing, I've realized that the ENTIRE bottom half of my drivers door is completely non magnetic. It'* like it'* plastic, but it'* not. It feels solid and seems to have no evidence of any sort of repairs. Above the shoulder of the car the door mysteriously becomes magnetic...but not below it. WTF?!?! Anyone else have a non-magnetic driver'* door?!

if your drivers door and passenger door are different, I would assume you have some hidden body work.

Carfax?

Probably not a normal thing to do, but can you tear off the door panel and see what'* under it? It sounds pretty fishy, so please do Carfax. In case nothing turns up, though, you should have at least some audio installation guy look under the door panel.

If you're talking about the bottom half of either door, I can attest that at least the ribbed or non-flat panel that runs from halfway down the door to the bottom is merely held with adhesive tape. I know this because my Bonnie was sideswiped by a drunk driver (from gas cap door to the headlight on the driver'* side, INCLUDING the mirror) while parked and unmanned. Caught the guy, and his insurance took care of it, but I have seen that part of the car with my own two eyes.

Does the magnet stick to the trunk (as a test)?

Yea...I figured that it must be some kind of body work. But damn, it is 100% not noticeable. The paint is PERFECTLY matched and there isnt a blemish on it. The shitty thing is, I bought from a reputable Pontiac dealer - don't they have to tell you about **** like that?

The part of the door that is non-magnetic is above the chrome molding strip - which you can see in my sig pic (albeit the wrong side) all the way up to the pinstripe/shoulder area. Above the pinstrip, bingo - it'* magnetic again! I might do the CarFax thing later this week...as I'm presently broke, lol.

my guess would be a skim coat of filler to which it would be less magnetic.
your car door may just had some dents that someone fixed and will not show up on a carfax.

hows the rear door? same side.

Rear door on the same side is perfect, it'* where I have the magnets now since it won't stick up front. It makes sense that its a coating, because it is SLIGHTLY magnetic I think...and certain parts of the door are normally magnetic.
