the article written in that first post was in my local newspaper.

Well, I stand corrected on the potential of a G8, the sources definately point that way.

Still doesn't make sense to me, especially after the hyping of the fact that the G6 stands for the 6th Generation of the Grand AM chassis.

Go with scheme....change the scheme.

hte bonneville as it is now is not selling well. Look at the GXP, it stacked up almost worse than Bills 12 year old SSEi. If it takes a new name to get GM to change some things and update the Bonnie than so be it.

Lots of good ideas in that thread though... esp. the RWD/Northstar option, and the 3800 as a smaller engine choice.

It's about time that Pontiac's fullsize sedan got a fullsize engine.

Pontiac must like the letter "G" a lot. Back in the early 80's, they temporarily dropped the Full Size Bonneville and reincarnated it as the smaller Lemans. They called it the Bonneville Model G. It sort of makes you wonder who(or what) was running things back at Pontiac Central.
GM ought to take a lesson from Chrysler. They came out with a (more then less) Full Sized Car (except for the trunk) with dynamic styling, dropped in a Hemi Engine and called it the Chrysler 300 C. Deservedly so.
Now tell me. If Pontica redesigned its Full Sized Car wtih a V-8, what would you call it? Bonneville? Or, would you rather have a G8?

Great link. Yeah we don't need a $30,000 boring + competent sedan. You can have a boring + competent sedan in a weekend ad special Hyundai XG350. At $30,000 if it's semi-boring one wants, one can get Nissan Murano or Honda Pilot (both take 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, btw) and have plenty of cargo space to space.

Sedans these days have to have something edgy to justify their existence in this day of perfectly good cross-overs. A 3.9L 240hp Bonneville loaded to the hilt with very few option combos to pose as a luxury ride priced about the same as lesser equipped crossovers. A 5.3L 290 hp / 6-speed auto version starting with less equipment but same price as 240hp version; but fully equipped versions costing more than the V6 version. And a top-dog 6.0L 400hp with appearance package just like the 20" rimmed 300 SRT-8.

Affordable V8 cars is what America still does best, so why aren't they doing more of such.

OMG, they killed the bonneville! Those bastards!
