Bonneville beyond 2006?
Rumor of a Buick Lucerne, 5.3L V8, and all new 6-speed automatic.
Buick LaCrosse arriving with 3.8L OHV and 3.6L DOHC engines. Grand Prix GXP with 5.3L V8, and 4-speed auto. coming Where does that leave the Bonneville in the coming years? Any rumors? A lower cost version of the RWD Cadillac STS with a 3900 V6, 5.3L OHV V8, and 6.0L LS2 would be nice to knock heads with the 300C. |
thats providing the gas price don't go the way they do and force car comp. to make it different like they did early 90's where they were gutless fuel econo POS :?

Hmmm...May just have to drive the 95 into the ground and revive her for the rest of my life...I wonder if that's possible? To Drive one vehicle forever and never let it die? Just keep fixing what breaks...That would be a true test of dependability??

I worry about GM's future. They are some of the best cars out there. However, people don't like the high prices and lack of radical desighns. They might do something special for 07' but after that the Bonny is most likely history. :x

According to the Chicago Tribune earlier this week, things don't look good for the Bonneville as we know it. With weak sales, you can't blame GM but it appears unlikely that it will continue as a 4 door sedan.
I thought that the GXP would tempt me so I test drove one. It was a nice, smooth car but at only 24mpg and only marginally better performance than my SSEi, thanks but no thanks. |

my papers wheels section(cars section) is reporting in today's paper that pontiac is considering dropping the bonneville after 2006, for a crossover SUV. that would suck, 1 year from the 50th Annv. If pontiac does drop it, there will be one angry website breathing down their neck!!!!

Re: Bonneville beyond 2006?
Not sure, but I found this on GMinsidenews.com:
Pontiac- Aztek- The Aztek will finally make it’s exit after the 2005 model year. Bonneville- Bonneville will be cancelled after 2005. G4/G5- It is rumored that Pontiac will get a mid-sized Kappa sedan based off the Holden Torana TT36 show car. It would likely have a high performance V6 powertrain and be slightly smaller than a BMW 3 series. If this car is produced, don't expect to see it before 2007. G6- Coupe and hard-top versions (in that order) of the G6 will arrive in late 2005 as 2006 models. In 2006 a G6 GTP will be added powered by a 240 HP version of the new 3.9L OHV engine. A G6 GXP powered by a 270hp+ version of the 3.9L will also come into play after 2007. G8- Large RWD Sedan based of Zeta Platform with debut around 2007/08. Will be powered by both a 3.9L V6, and 5.3/6.0L V8's. Replacement for the Bonneville, and possibly the Grand Prix Grand Prix- The Grand Prix will receive a GXP version in late MY 2005 as a 2006 model. It will be powered by a 280-300 HP 5.3L LS4 powertrain. unfortunately, the 4 speed automatic transmission will remain until 2007 (at the earliest) when it is replaced by a 6 speed automatic. Also, the current 3800 engine series will be discontinued in 2006/07, replaced by the 240 hp 3.9L V6. In 2008, the Grand Prix will either be replaced by the G8 sedan, or carry on along side it. Solstice- The Solstice is set to arrive in late 2005, as a 2006 model. Starting in 2007 Pontiac will offer a GT version of roadster. The GT will have a turbocharged version of the 2.0L Ecotec engine, and a revised front fascia. Torrent- Pontiac will introduce it’s own Theta-based SUV in 2006. It is said to share the body panels with the Equinox, and have the 3.5L, followed by the 3.9L in 2007. |

the article written in that first post was in my local newspaper.

Well, I stand corrected on the potential of a G8, the sources definately point that way.
Still doesn't make sense to me, especially after the hyping of the fact that the G6 stands for the 6th Generation of the Grand AM chassis. Go with scheme....change the scheme. |
hte bonneville as it is now is not selling well. Look at the GXP, it stacked up almost worse than Bills 12 year old SSEi. If it takes a new name to get GM to change some things and update the Bonnie than so be it.
|
Lots of good ideas in that thread though... esp. the RWD/Northstar option, and the 3800 as a smaller engine choice.
It's about time that Pontiac's fullsize sedan got a fullsize engine. |
Pontiac must like the letter "G" a lot. Back in the early 80's, they temporarily dropped the Full Size Bonneville and reincarnated it as the smaller Lemans. They called it the Bonneville Model G. It sort of makes you wonder who(or what) was running things back at Pontiac Central.
GM ought to take a lesson from Chrysler. They came out with a (more then less) Full Sized Car (except for the trunk) with dynamic styling, dropped in a Hemi Engine and called it the Chrysler 300 C. Deservedly so. Now tell me. If Pontica redesigned its Full Sized Car wtih a V-8, what would you call it? Bonneville? Or, would you rather have a G8? |

Sedans these days have to have something edgy to justify their existence in this day of perfectly good cross-overs. A 3.9L 240hp Bonneville loaded to the hilt with very few option combos to pose as a luxury ride priced about the same as lesser equipped crossovers. A 5.3L 290 hp / 6-speed auto version starting with less equipment but same price as 240hp version; but fully equipped versions costing more than the V6 version. And a top-dog 6.0L 400hp with appearance package just like the 20" rimmed 300 SRT-8. Affordable V8 cars is what America still does best, so why aren't they doing more of such. |
OMG, they killed the bonneville! Those bastards!
