Default Big car small mirrors

Does anybody know why GM did this to all of the H-bodies until the next generation h-bodies?

My hang-up with the '92-99 Bonnevilles was not the size of the mirrors, but the location. Since it has to miss the piller of the fake vent windows, the mirrors are moved toward the rear of the car about six-eight inches farther than normal. My ex had a 94 and everytime I put the window down and rested my arm on the door, my hand would block the mirror. It was the same on the LeSabres and 88'*. I always liked Bonnevilles, but swore that I would not buy another until they fixed the damn mirrors!
