Pretty much all I see around here for $5k for a '00+ is high mileage SE'* and those are even hard to come by.

I would agree with what everyone else has been saying. Go with a '92 - '99. They have proven to be extremly reliable and parts for them are everywhere if you do need something.

Bottom line is $5K for a no problem / low mileage '00+ Bonneville = probably not

The fastest stock Bonneville is probably the Series II (L67) in a car with SLE trim level.

http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...e=article&k=34

That would be the Techinfo article listing the various HP ratings for the 3800 over the years.

A Series II */C makes 240 hp, 280 lb-ft. Or a lot more, if you can afford it.

I dont see whats wrong in buying a car older than 5 years. The pre-2000 generation of Bonneville'* tend to be more reliable and have less problems, ie no window regulator issues that the 2000+ are having. Yes, you may need to take it to a mechanic once or twice a year, but spending ~300 dollars on a mechanic visit is a hell of a lot better than a monthly car payment. Just my two cents.
