Any Ideas for these problems?

here i am reading this whole thread and it didnt hit me until what jwikoff99 said.

For the air ducts, check to see if there is an empty post on the black box, just to the left of the brake master cylinder. If there is, look for a vacuum line hanging somewhere nearby and hook it up. Seems to happen a lot. That line controls the airducts.
I just had this exact symptom a month ago. I knocked off that vacuum line cleaning the engine. It was so nice to find out thats all it was.

Right; we can help you with that. There'* a TechInfo article on the procedure. Don't let anyone try to sell you another dash cluster if that'* the only problem with yours.

Didn't get the car, and on the way back to the owners house with it it tried to kill me! Worst driving experience ever! The Mechanics found holes rusted through the frame, fuel pump was rusting, the ac would need to be replaced along with the leaky intake, many cooling systems were leaking as well. On the way home the Tranny wouldn't get into 4th on the highway, i was lucky to come to stop and go, but then it wouldnt go higher then 30! The stop and go never got past 30 on I 494 so i was good for a while. Then on SR 7 i couldnt get above 40, i decided to pull it over. I parked it and opened the hood to help cool off the tranny and such. He had a big ******* tranny cooler on it too! Anyways I got the tranny to work the last 5 miles or so, and that car woulda been a huge money pit it'* not even funny. Parents said i can up the price range, so back to the websites i go!

Really?! Where?

fuel pump was rusting
I think that'* just cosmetic rust, although from what you described in general, it sounds like this car'* gotten wet a lot in the past. (I wonder if it was ever in a flood?)

Maybe a clogged convertor there, too.

Agreed. Congratulations on having a mechanic check out the car; it sounds like you saved yourself from a bad situation.

A little over a week ago my DIC and compass shut off for good. After three years of intermittent displays between 40-60 degrees F, I finally decided to tear apart the dashboard with acgssei'* procedure.

Well, I put it all back together and voila! Working displays again. The real test will be to see how it behaves over the next year. I wasn't against paying the $170 to get it rebuilt, it just would have been too inconvenient. I don't have a week to wait for it to get returned to me.

I'll keep you posted on its operation, and thanks to acgssei for the procedure.

GOod job FuddyDuddy! how many screws did you have left over? 170 to get it rebuilt? That wasnt even an option with my dealer. They had a new one ordered before they even took the dash off. Mine was the 3 gauges on the right going bonkers. the cost was $370. I like free better!

No screws!

United Radio over in Syracuse rebuilds the instrument clusters, but the turnover time is too long. I thought about sending it in while I was on vacation, but when vacation is coming up that is usually the last thing on my mind.
