Default ANy ever use shield on their replacement brake pipe?

Replacing the brake line (pipe) on my 1999 Bravada. Many of the lines have a coil shield (protector) on them, called shield, brk pipe ht, 1/4" OD. It is GM part number 3886933 and/ or 03886933. I have not found this stuff at any of the part stores, but it can be ordered via comp nine or gmgiant.

My guess is this coil protects against pebbles, etc from getting a direct strike on the line. I wonder why it does not seem to factor into repairs. Any thoughts on how critical or beneficial it is to use this stuff when replacing brake lines? It is somewhat expensive as one has to but a bulk of it and I have not been able to cross reference it to a aftermarket number.
