Ok,
the 99 Bonneville that I bought on ebay and drove 600 miles home today is sweet, but not perfect (see radio post below). Another question that someone may have an answer to:
When the fan is on (either on vent or AC) and I accelerate to go up a hill, or go around a 65mph corner, the air changes from the front vents to the defrost vents. When I level out, it gradually comes back to normal. Is there something loose that is making gravity do this? Any Help would be appreciated.

Do you have the climate control on Defrost? If so I did notice on my 97 SSE that it would change positions from defrost to vent and back to defrost. I don't know why it did that. Maybe someone can answer this.

Exactly. Classic symptom of a partially-blocked catalytic convertor. (Maybe that'* why he was selling off the car...?)

Actually before you drive off that bridge and splurge the money for a convertor, you might as well check that you haven't just got a vacuum leak somewhere. A marginal vacuum supply will be able to hold its own until some prolonged acceleration, such as an uphill climb, at which point the intake manifold vacuum goes to zero (or to positive pressure, for supercharger applications), and the vacuum dissipates altogether.

Actualy its supposed to do this. What happens is that the A/C system "decreases" output to free up more power, when the car is under load.

Most vehicles do this.

Depending on the extent that it does it, there may be a problem. Which we cant really diagnois over the net. If you are that worried about it, take it to a repair shop. DONOT tell them anyhting is wrong, just that you want it checked, for proper operation.

I now have a 92 SE and a 99 SLE, one of the first model year and one of the last. Does anyone have a year to year change list? I know that they make minor changes, it would be interesting to see it in writing. Other than the change to the 3800 series II.
Do you think the catalytic converter could be clogged in just 58000 miles?
It seems to have plenty of power, not retarded at all.
Where would I check for a vacuum leak anyway? I do all of my own wrenchwork.
