Default Alternator Questions

So I'm in the market for a new alternator. Not going crazy with higher amps or anything 140A works fine for me. Couple questions though.

I'm always hearing about different brackets and stuff getting swapped. What would I swap to and why is it better?
Are all the alternators the same or do I need to get the alternator for the year of the bracket?

~Thanks a bunch.

You will need one that matches the year of your bracket, or you will need to get a bracket and swap that as well.
