Default AL7 Headrests

I was wondering if anyone had a trick to remove the headrests off of a set of AL7s. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me.

Lift headrest almost to full extension.

Looking from front seat to back seat..see the little hole on the plastic that sticks up (96-99 only that I know of) Use a small pick and push in..lift that side of headrest.. repeat on other side.

It'* so easy the 92-95 people could kill... (although I did have luck with an energy suspension plastic packaging cut in half to remove a 94 AL7 headrest...... who needs wiper blades )

If you're talking about 92-95 AL7'*, strip one metal band from a windshield wiper blade, and insert it into the hole, alongside the support posts to release the tabs. I modified mine when I had it apart for the camera mount install so they wouldn't lock, but there'* still a positive detent in that location. I just tug upward now.

Packaging from an energy suspension endlink package works just as well and you don't need to hang onto old worn wipers..

I always keep my last replaced set of wipers in the trunk. They've saved my butt on trips in the past. :P

Sweet, I'll have that done soon, now the trick will be putting the upholstery from the non AL7 headrests onto the new ones

Bill, I couldn't believe how easily my headrest came out. Thanks for your expertise!

Its hard to explain, but on the bottom of the headrest is a black plastic piece that kinda folds into one another to create a seam and to hold the material onto the headrest. You can not see it because it is tucked into the headrest, but if you grab and pinch that area, you will feel what im talking about.

My son decided to take mine apart and I had to put it back together.

One peice slides into the other and then folds inwards.

Called a J channel in the FSM'*.

Swapping leather is easy Chase...take your time and mash the foam on both ends to get excess to pull off and put them on.
