Optimas are actually known to drop one cell. Ask how I know..lol

On the WSS, being newer you should be able to see a code with your HPT. My 97 Bville wouldn't show a code, but the newer stuff does. Could be a loose wire or connector. My Regal has occasional spats of WSS unhappiness. Dielectrical goop is your best friend.

Clock, RFA/BCM etc could explain the drain you see. It'* obvious something is bad about the battery. Plus there'* the loose post that you mentioned in the pm.

BTW, it'* ELC.

Alright, the wife said the door locks were opening and closing for about 5 minuets by them self. My first thought is corrosion.

This is the connections are the side doors, who thought this would be a good idea, really.

So I cleaned them up and put a thin film of dielectric grease over the pads.

Everything seems to be working. now it'* just wait and see again.

Think I'm going to go wash and detail the caddy.

Just washed the caddy and gave it a wipe with the quick detailer. Didn't go all out with it.

OK, with a lot of testing, and a phone call from Bill, I think we have the dead battery figured out. I left a charged battery sit in the car unhooked. It started at 12.2 volts, and dropped down to 11.97 volts and just stayed there. Bill and I started talking about many different possible problems. Then he suggested doing a Amp draw test. So that'* what I did. I connected the negative cable and left the positive unhooked. I connected one side of the amp meter to the cable and the other end to the battery post.

4.96 amps of draw. Nothing is on in the car, and there my be a few milliamp, but not nearly 5 amps.

I started pulling fuses one at a time.

Hello, what have we here.

Next step would be to check what is all in that fuse and start pulling other fuses under the dash. I unplugged the horns because they were listed on that big 60amp fuse, no change. Then, on a hunch I went for the power antenna. Why? Because I change that a month or so ago.

So now I wait and see if the battery goes dead, but I'm thinking it wont.

Did you check the draw again with the antenna unplugged? Hopefully this doesn't mean you end up having to buy another one.... I had to replace mine as soon as I got my 99', and luckily it made it till I traded it in.

Yep, zero with it unplugged. I think it might be the relay, I'll have to test it when I have a bit more time. I got that antenna from the salvage yard but didn't grab the relay, I reused mine. Wish I had grabbed it now.

Dang... you know I was onboard with buying a new battery as we kept chatting about the various things that go wrong with them. Tossed out the test as a .... "This is what we'd tell someone on the forum to do". Meanwhile us super gearhead guys, we frequently skip the testing steps and go right to replacment..lol

Isn't that a standard 5 pin on a bracket? Swap that baby out. (you do have spares....right) I'm assuming that the antenna motor wasn't running?

No, that relay is different, it has 2 plugs on it. No, the motor was not running, in fact the radio wasn't even on.
