Default 96SE vs. 97SE

Any major differences between 96 and 97? I'm looking at a 96 SE today(hopefully) silver with tan leather, cd/eq fully loaded with a center console too(which is what i desperately want, i HATE column shifters)

Sooooo any differences between the 96 I'm looking at today compared to the few 97'* I've looked at in the past?

Both 96 and 97 used the Series II, however the 97 had a little more power than 96 if I recall correctly. Don't worry, willwren will post a listing of the breaking down of performance each year.

Personally, my next Bonneville would be a 97 or up. The engine was rock solid and performed great since then.

Well Iook at the car, VERY nice, found out it was owned by an older guy so I know it was taken care of

67K miles and the car placed threw in a 4-year unlimited mile warranty, i'll walk out of there with the car for 6500 all said after taxes and stuff

I think I'm jumping on this one

97+ Bonneville'* computers are easier to work on. You can get a chip for the 97 and not the 96. That'* about the only difference.

What would need to be done to convert to a 97 ECM?

I don't know ECM'* like some do, but I can tell you the 96 had the 4T60E tranny, and the 97 had the 4T65E. I don't know if I'd really have a preference between them.

(edited for typo)

The 4T65E was an upgrade from the 4T60E. The 4T65E also has a shift kit available--not so for the 4T60E.
