Default 95 SSE Factory CD player

My mom went to listen to a cd in her bonny the other day, and it took the cd in, started making a loud clicking noise and now the radio won't work! The radio won't turn on, won't play the cd, and it won't even EJECT the cd! The cd player just makes a loud clicking sound and won't do anything at all. What is wrong with it? These factory cd players are horrible. Do you think GM could of possibly put in any cheaper of a unit?

Mine does the same thing. I got really pissed because I thought i lost a cd. I turned in on the next day and it came out. It doesn't like to get turned off while running a CD.

It seems to not like CD-R'* either. Was it a CD-R by the way?

I don't even think CD-R'* were heard of in 95.

Basically, CD'* you buy at the store are Red Book, and CD-R'* are Orange(?? I believe) book. It'* the standard they are made on. It'* a bunch of things but I think it comes down to the material in the CD'*

In a standard CD the information is cut into the metal film layer in "on" and "off" (1 and 0), in a CD-R the plastic layer inside is changed color to "on" and "off" because of this, the material is less reflective, plus it'* thicker. The stock CD player'* laser probably isn't Strong/Sensative enough for the CD-R'*.

So the only solutions are. Buy silver bottom CD-R'* that may help. Or, ya gotta change the head unit. In my research, I have found a unit which will interface the stock steering wheel controls with a head unit which has the ability to use a remote. So you won't loose any functions, the only thing you may loose is the dimmer controls (which depends on the head unit you buy, i believe Pioneer'* use it.) I know my Clarion doesn't :( . I'm planning on updating my radio soon.

Mine did the same thing. With CD-R'* it would hol the CD and just click, click, click... Best thing I could do was keep hitting eject, turn it off / on while hitting eject, etc... Eventually the CD would pop out. I eventually reaplced the whole unit with a GM Din 1.5 Pioneer. The pictures are on my site. Well worth the $$.

I'd also be interested in selling the factory one I have, but it did the same thing yours souldns like its doing, so that might not help much.

Lates!
