95 Bonnie advice needed
I'm looking at buying a 95 from a guy that works in the company. I found it on the internal classified listing. I haven't seen the car yet, although it sounds identical to Don'*. I'll be checking it out on Monday. Here are the details of the car (from an email I got from the guy)
First thing that concerns me is the odometer. How could I fix it (assuming I bought it).
Furthermore, given that it'* a 95, do I HAVE to take it to the dealer to get codes read in the event that I get a check engine light? That'* the biggest deterant to this very low priced ride!
Comments/thoughts?
Here'* the short version to answer your questions. I've owned the car for about 18mths. I'm selling because I purchased a minivan for my wife, and I going to drive the old one (unless you want to buy a Dodge Caravan MY'00 with 61K ?)
I purchased new tires, new battery, new starter, new belts, front brakes, new computer since I've owned it. The car has power windows, locks (drivers door sticks on power open), cruise, tilt wheel, drivers power seat, red exterior color, black cloth interior, cd/am/fm player, ABS, alloy wheels. I think the only thing I've done with the cooling system, is a fluid change. I will tell you that when I purchased the car, the Odometer was broken - I haven't fixed it, hence the low price - it would be in the $2K range otherwise (I've maybe put on 10K miles since I purchase it).
I find it to be a good car for the type of driving I do in Holland (city driving). It is actually very quiet inside compared to our Caravan.

And, Advance can read a 95? I thought AutoZone, Advance, etc. could only read 96+?

The odometer should be a simple problem in the dash or a connector at the trans/wheels. Having a 95 SSEi I just changed parts of my gauge cluster cause of wierd gauge behavior. $35 on ebay and 92-95 will fit and plug right in. Info to take it out is in Techinfo.
95 are the hybrid year for OBD...uses a II connector but feeds info the same. Advance can read for free.
The window is funny...I think it'* the auto window he'* talking about.

As for getting codes read, that'* news to me! I'm happy to learn that. I was lead to believe that those guys can't read anything pre-96.
He'* referring to the power door lock not unlocking ("open" as he refers to it) all the way. I'm sure that could be solved with some white lithium grease.
The one other thing I'm wondering is that he said "belts". As in plural. Makes me wonder if it'* a SC SE?!?! It'* probably not and he just assumed multiple belts.

Vital, You'll have to take a good look at the car...
First, the scanning... It really depends on what scantool or code reader they are using...
The 1994-1995 models even though they use OBD codes and the 16 pin OBD2 connector they can not be read with the OBD2 scantool or code reader.... The scantool has to be capeable of reading 1994-1995 GM cars and minivans with the OBD2 connector... The 94-95 Bonnevilles are OBD1 compliant and use a diffrent protocall which can't be read with an OBD2 scantool...Not all Autozones or Advance auto parts stores will be able to read a 94-95 bonneville, some are using a scantool others are simply using a code reader, Make any sense?
