Default 5 more hp in a bonnie than gp same engine why??

Why is it that the series II bonnevilles have 205 hp and 230 ft lbs of tq and the grand prixs with that series II has 200 hp and 230 ft lbs tq and isn't the grand prixs faster than a bonnie stock?

A grand prix in stock form is NOT faster than a Bonneville SE in stock form because of that difference. It'* because of engine bay constraints and the fact that the GP and all other W bodies have a nasty restrictive u-bend in their exhaust downpipe in order to find a way out of the engine bay.

there are actually 2 u-bends in the W-body, at least on mine anyway.. there is the one will mentioned in the downpipe and there is also another just past the catalytic converter, GM wanted to to protect the O2 sensor better or something so its inserted vertically into that u-bend...really really dumb..

the Intrigue with the 3.8 is rated at 195hp...so it could be worse i would assume maybe it has a more restrictive airbox or something.

It'* hard to make a judgement on which is faster in stock form, regardless of a 5HP difference. Weight has a huge factor too. The GP weighs slightly less than a Bonnie SE. Driver is also a factor.

Yes the G-body Bonneville in comparison to a W-body GP weigh a good amount more, and yes the exhaust pipes don't have to make those odd bends. I actually wondered the same thing. My Impala is not as fast as my Bonn, but it sure weighs alot less. When I dirve in wind I noticed the difference (in the weight) and when I watch my L36 chug down fuel I am also pleasently reminded agian it cost big bucks to look cool and go fast. My LA1 in the Impala is much more fuel efficent car, I get about 29-30 in my Bonn on the highway and Impala get 34-35! I noticed the W-body feels less stiff and conected where as my Bonn is me and my sons favorite highway car (because its stiffer and less darty)! My wife likes the smaller Impala. Just my 5 cents but the G-body is stiffer and still impresses more than the (W-body)Impala! Is it worth the weight penalty? YES! But what more can I say I love the Bonneville! And no an Olds Intergue never got a 3800 what are you thinking? They had the Shortstar Twin Cam 3.5L V6...

Actually not. G and H are remarkably different, and only share basic size. The 2k and newer Bonnevilles are G'*.

Depending on the year (98-99 I reckon), they got the L36.

yup in 98 the 3.8 was the only engine, in 99 you could get either one...00-02 was the Shortstar only.
