2012 Caprice
I was driving home from work tonight, and I get behind this red car. I got a little closer and saw that it was a 2012 Chevrolet Caprice. WTF is GM selling these to the public? I read it was only for police (until they go to auction
) I know it wasn't a cop car since it had an SLP Performance license plate frame on it. So anyone know what the deal is and most importantly how can I get one!

you can't. i had an order for one in july, but after some jackass dealer in north carolina or something ordered 13 9C3 package ones and "civilianized" them and posted them all over ebay and auto trader. with the big headline "the new caprice for sale to the general public!!!" GM saw that and closed the loop hole that was there to get one without being an municipality. needless to say my order got canceled by GM!
It was in NJ. It would be pretty sweet if GM is having SLP test a civilian version. If I wasn't mistaken it had dual chrome exhaust. I don't think that would be something cops would put on the car.
According to the car blogs like Jalopnik, GM refuses to release the Caprice to the public, even though it makes no sense (how can you use it as an unmarked car when its easily identified as a cop car since only the cops use it?). The car is supposed to have similar underpinnings to the Pontiac G8, and Australian roots, I think they will release it to the public in due time, they might not think they have the ability, especially because they are under so much public and governmental scrutiny and because its a foreign made/designed gas guzzler.
its all about money, if gm thought they could make a ton on it they would, but if not they just have the camaro and corvette. even if they did sell it the chances of it being an affordable car are not good. they wanted 20k for the cruze eco'* i was looking at, can you imagine a tricked out g8'ish car?
That and there wouldn't be a big enough market to justify selling these to the public. The G8 ended up being a car for a niche market, at least as far as what GM offers and the audience that buys cars from GM brands.
