Default 2003 Bonneville remote reprogram

Ok folks, I needed to replace my original keyless entry fob due to the fact that the device holding my battery came loose. No biggie, got one from ebay for $25, the numbers on the back all match. I've search the forum and found numerous posts concerning this; i read on 2000 and newer bonnevilles you need a TECH II scanner. Just wondering if this is still true. Is that the ONLY way to reprogram the key fob?

Thanks for any help. I don't post alot but you guys have been a big help in my continuing enjoyment of my Bonneville.

Or.........do I just need the TECH II scanner? Which I may have access to. And if I get the scanner, is it pretty easy to figure out?

If you can get your hands on a tech2, then ya, you can set it up. I've never done it so I have no idea how hard it is. A tech2 costs a small fortune so generally, dealerships are the only places that have them.

Cool, thanks. Good friend of mine works at a ford dealership so I might be in luck.

Well, considering tech2 is a GM thing, not sure how that will work.

You can post pictures now. You can either go to advanced editor and upload, or use a place like photobucket.

Hmm, didn't realize it was a GM thing, thought it was universal. Worth a try to save the dealer cost of doing it. I know I can call and find out but anyone know approx. what the dealer charges by chance? Good deal on posting the pics, I'll upload some pics of my 03 soon. 272,500 miles on it and runs like a champ.Looks good too.

IIRC, when I first got my car, the dealer charged about $40 (?) to program 2 remotes and cut one key.
And a lot of "brand specific" dealerships have access to a tech2. My friend works at a Honda dealer and can get one. They take in cars on trade, and have a multi brand franchise, so it makes sense to have one.

My wife just had her FOB programed on her 2005 Montana and the dealership charged her $25. But all dealerships are different.
