I have a 1996 oldsmobile 88 3.8L v6 w/o supercharger. The computer is showing code p1870. There are no signs of transmission issues. Its shifts fine, the fluid is bright red with no signs of metal shavings. I can clear the code and it comes back on within 20 miles of driving. Any ideas?

That'* a well-known design flaw with 4T60 transmissions made before 1999. The transmission needs to be opened up to replace the valve body, but on the bright side, this is one of those problems that you probably won't notice. I put about 100,000 more miles on my Bonneville after this code first showed up.
