The couger weighs a good 700 lbs more then the Bonne... I am sure that the couger of that year is full framed and not unibody like the past years of thunderbird. The couger of that year stock came with a 302 and not a whole lot of hp. You with your bonne are prolly edging what the couger in tip top shape would have Hp wise... The v8 would have more torque and it is RWD......
I think you have a great advantage unless this couger has a Edelbrock Intake Edelbroke 600cfm carb. roller rockers and cam. I had a 302 with just those things on my 66 thunderbird before I ripped it out and it was pussing 311 Hp at the wheel
It just depends what has been done to the couger...
But if its stock you will win.

The 390 only puts out "stock" just under 300 horse. Now if hes done any modding like intake carb stuff like that then your in trouble..

You mean 351.... Well the 351 is a good engine but has just a little more power then a 302. If you dad has anything done to this engine it may be a good match/ :?
