I just argued with Advance that I didn't pay for two motor mounts that are incorrect. Nicole (asst mgr) and Dan (mgr) both said.."you paid for both".. I disagreed and finally left with an extra $20 because they wouldn't believe me.
The real bother is, I don't really have anyway of explaining that it was the FPR that caused this whole thing, because the shop I took it to diagnosed it as UIM failure and didn't mention the FPR. I could just say, "Well Bonneville Club said..."
My own ignorance is the problem, I just can't describe the damage accurately enough, "Well, the engine cover blew off, there was fire, the black thing under it cracked and there'* plastic everywhere, um..."
So I guess my question is, where is that infamous FPR located? I think I would sound more convincing if I genuinely understood what happened, lol

The UIM didn't blow up because there was coolant in it. That'* not possible because coolant isn't combustible. The UIM failed because something in it blew up and the only choice is fuel.
In this pic the FPR (fuel pressure regulator) is the bronze-ish cylinder in the lower right corner with the post sticking out to the left and some melted stuff sitting on top. What happens is the FPR leaks fuel that is under pressure into that post sticking out. A vacuum line is attached to that post (well, used to be
) that leads into the intake, so that'* how the fuel gets in there. You try to start the engine, spark plug ignites, intake valve is open just long enough for the flame to escape the cylinder into the intake manifold... and BOOM!!

Ahh, that makes sense, yay :o So at least I can be confident knowing that this is a valid reason for contacting GM about the damage, whether they will do anything about it or not. Thanks!!
You'll need to contact the Customer assistance center I beleive since your damage is already done. They can be reached at 800-620-7668.
Here the link to the document I got it off of at the National Highway Safety Committee.
Also - I don't believe that Safety recalls ever expire, unlike the generic recalls. fwiw.

You have the pictures (wow! there'* something that last pic!) and you have the information in the faulty fuel pressure regulator... call with confidence. I would likely call to say, "I've had an apparent fuel pressure regulator fail, which resulted in my plennum exploding on _____ when I attempted to start the vehicle. According to the research on the Internet, there was a safety recall for faulty FPR'* on this year/model. I obtained my car in _(month/year)___, and am not the original owner, therefore I cannot say that this recall was corrected on this vehicle. Luckily, no personal injury was sustained in the explosion, however I am seeking assistance from GM for recovering the resulting damages for repair in the amount of $__________. "
Or something along those lines...
