Default Posting copyrighted material

POLICY:

Do NOT post copyrighted material on this Forum without consent of the Author. This could be from another website, or a book that you personally own. The owner/Admins of this site will not be held liable for any copyright infringement of this type, and as such, will prevent (to the best of our ability) it'* posting in public. This is for the protection of ALL members.

Copyrighted material could include:

Information obtained from any other website.
Documents such as service manuals, magazines, or other books.
CD-based documents.
Brochures/leaflets.

In many cases, the picture you post will show in the properties tab where it came from, if it'* direct-linked. This should be ok, as long as the picture came from the site that owns the copyright, not saved to your server from their site, and then linked from there.

Looking up the material, and manually typing in the information you gather from it is different. Do NOT scan or post the source document without first having sent evidence of written permission to an Admin.

This is an example of Copyright Policy from another Automotive Forum I belong to:
Quote:
All nonoriginal references, text, pictures should identify the source clearly and the poster should seek to ensure that the subject matter is not restricted from public distribution.

Any copyright holder that feels information is present on this board that should not be or is subject to licensing costs should contact [email protected] immediately for removal.

As a noncommercial site and noncommercial use of materials most information in the public domain should be able to be posted here freely - again please recognize the original source to the extent it is known.

Members agree that original work of their own that is posted here is explicitly licensed for public presentation in noncommercial use without cost. Copying or referencing to members' original work must be done in the full context of the work with appropriate recognition given to the source.

With the exception of the board code, design and layout (which are the copyright of phpBB Group) all other materials not covered above are the copyright of xxxxxx.xxx and are freely distributable in unmodified form with appropriate credit given to the source.
While this may seem extreme, it'* written in this manner to protect the owner of the website. (I would personally feel HORRIBLE if Jeff were hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit because I overlooked or missed something, and even WORSE if the site were shut down ) It would be best to use this as a GUIDELINE when posting here. Please send any questions regarding this policy to your friendly neighborhood Admin.
