Personally I could care less who wins, but I think it would be more fun if it was made public to some degree. Just something I was thinking about at work today, talking about polls and opinions. Just something different thats all, maybe something for the season (summer) since a lot more people are going to be posting their pics, or hold different events for (Unique Picture, Coolest Picture, Oddest Picture, Hardest Picture) etc... I work at a amusement park, so forgive me

I really watch the process from the outside looking in. I think in general, they're looking for QUALITY, not quantity. What I mean by this, is that when the other Mods discuss the candidates with Merlin, they're really looking for the well-cared for museum piece, as opposed to the heavily-modded beast.

I left the whole COTM program in Merlin'* capable hands (back before he was even a Moderator), and I leave it to him to make any changes to the program he feels are necessary.

One of these days, we'll see a calendar

<snip from another thread>
COTM.... there'* a lot of thought and process that goes into it.
I take my time and consult with the mods/admins..... it'* not just the car or the person.... but the work effort.... and how the person and/or their car has contributed to the club and/or inspired others. Also getting a good balance of trims and years is hard too.....
All I can say is I try my best, and the mods/admins help out, esp when I need some people to bounce ideas off. Nominations also go a long way.... I get several per month... and it certainly helps.
<end snip>

As for the calander idea.... it would be easy for a digital image calander or background for your computers.... but difficult for an actual wall calander, since the COTMs are normally picked the month before.

I do have a contact that can make calanders, we could use the ones from 04 for an 06 calander and then keep stepping with a 2yr gap.... but that'* kinda weird.

Another add here.....

Going by pure statistics (which are posted in Techinfo/Specifications), pure production numbers would dictate that SE'* outnumber SSEi'* by 10:1. But in reality, as far as membership goes, that ratio is much smaller in disparity.

It'* tough to hit them all, or to know what that ratio is to be fair. The cars are picked based on the criteria that Jason just posted above ^^^^^^^^ , and if a 'trend' becomes apparent after 2-3 months, it'* pointed out, and an effort is made to rectify it.

PM all your ideas and nominations to Merlin. If you still think there'* a bias involved, PM Merlin or an Admin.

I think that the COTM system is perfect. The very first COTM was mremer'* SE. How many COTM have there been total? 15? Without checking I'll guess close to 25% of those are SE'*. Now considering that from 92-97, then 98/9 there are a total of 4 different trim models the SE'* are getting fair representation.
It'* not broke, dont fiddle with it.

I hate statistics.

It just makes more sense that people who end up with an SLE, SSEi, etc. are more likely to join an online discussion community (i.e. bonnevilleclub.com). There are stark differences in the trim levels that would incline the owner of one of the higher trims to join a community where they can discuss problems, upgrades, etc. As I drive around town I see a lot of 2000+ Bonneville’* (I think you tend to notice the make/model of your car more than any other while driving) and for all the SE'* I see I would suspect none of the owners would join a discussion group. Not to generalize, but for the most part I see older women driving them, and doubt, and I could be wayyy off, that they would take any interest in discussing if adding ram air to their N/A 3800 II would benefit their track times. On the other hand, I do see some drivers of SLE'* and SSEi'* that would not join an online group either.

I don't think that allowing just the members to determine the COTM without admin/moderator oversight and/or final recommendation is a good idea. It will fastly become a popularity contest with mad "whoring" and when the results are in and the loudest minority or majority does not like it, there will be even more whoring and whining.

The way it was done for me I never knew it was coming. It was very nice surpise and I felt honored.
