Default Supercharger overhaulers?

I have a 1998 SSEi that has 125,000 miles and needs the supercharger to be overhauled, and I want to use one of those firms that send you a remanufactured one + core swap.

I noticed that some of the posts mention http://www.canadiansupercharger.com. I also did a search on the web and found http://www.pse.us/ (PSE Superchargers), who charge nearly the same rate, as well as SuperchargerPros

Does anyone have any recommendation between these and perhaps other firms? I'm not going to quibble over a few dollars if I know that the firm is reliable.

I appreciate your help!

Regards,

mld

we can possible save you alot of $$ if you tell US why you need a new SC

the Entire SC typically does not typically have to be replaced.....

Magnussen is who the dealers send in for when they need a new blower. they are the only authorized company to rebuild SC'*...generally the costs to rebuild one is $400-$600. Mine was right around $500. However magnussen will replace EVERYTHING inside the case, unlike the others (like canadian supercharger) who just replace WHAT NEEDS to be replaced lol.

Hans, CanadianSupercharger replaces EVERY seal and bearing. I've spoken personally with the owner, Brian McPhee on several occasions over the last 4 years.

Thanks for the replies.

As mentioned, I have a 1998 Bonneville SSEi with around 125,000. The supercharger is making both a rattling and a high metallic squeal noise. It is still functioning, and I do still get boost.

When I accelerate hard though, the engine starts to buck at higher RPM, and the check engine light goes on. I haven't been able to find a place to read the check for me.

I recently moved to Austin, and my old mechanic in New York (who was very good) isolated the problem to the supercharger. I overhauled the engine and transmission at around 95,000 miles.

Since I am new to Austin, unless anyone can recommend a mechanic here, my inclination is to merely have a local mechanic swap in a rebuilt one. I don't have the time, tools or inclination to do it myself.

The rotors on mine were replaced when the previous owner of the car send the supercharger in. I highly doubt they needed to be replaced...Magnuson also repaints them with the same paint that eaton uses...

In regards to the posters reply, You can run the motor without the supercharger belt for testing, to verify its a problem with the supercharger and not a problem with another accessory, it could also be a problem with a tensioner.

Have you removed the SC belt and moved it side to side and up and down to check for nosedrive looseness?

When does your supercharger rattle? Is it just at idle/lower RPMs? If so, you probably just need a coupler, which is a $30 part that you can replace yourself easily. Get that check engine light scanned. Many other things could be wrong and it'* foolish to spend hundreds or even thousands on a supercharger if you don't need to.
