Default spring in nosedrive assembly of M62

what is purpose of said spring? been thinking about it since i took it apart. also found out the M90 does not use a spring.

there were 2 springs in my m90 snout. a spring, and a spring clip

i had the spring clip too which i assume is to keep the seal in place with positive pressure behind it.

the inner spring puts pressure between nosedrive housing and bearing but why?
