I pulled off my */C yesterday to replace a noisy coupler and was a little disturbed by the condition of the rotors (see pic). There seem to be scratches or small gouges along the sealing lip on each one, along with a little bit of burning discoloration.

Is this normal for a 95 */c? and if not what do you think I need to do about it?

Normal. It'* part of the manufacturing process. These marks become obvious when the coating starts to wear off the fastest spinning portion.......the edges. It'* natural erosion.

If the rotors were impacting each other, or the case walls, you'd know it! Looks identical to my 93 when I rebuilt it.

Thanks, that makes me feel a lot better. This */C rebuild is turning into a big project... This w/e I'm pulling the motor to replace the timing chain, water pump, a bunch of gaskets, starter, etc etc etc.

dang! that does sound like a big project, i thought mine was gonna be big, heck im just pullin the supercharger and the lower manifold off here in about 2 weeks, lower manifold gasket is leakin a little oil

Mine just started, too. About a month ago on the corner closest to the driver'* headlight. I have an idea to fix it without pulling it all apart

ohh ok, well i have to pull the supercharger to do the coupler anyhow and i already had the intake manifold gaskets so i figured i might as well while i have the supercharger off, by the way whats your ideer for fixin the leak without tearin stuff apart??

You're pulling it apart anyway, but my idea is this (probably belongs in 92-99, but we'll go with it for now.....if it works, I'll do a Techinfo, as this is the only fairly common leak on high mileage 3800'*):

Because this isn't a pressure leak, and only oil being splashed around under the lower intake by the valvetrain, it might be easy to 'patch'.

1. Clean the engine thoroughly with a commercial product like gunk foamy engine brite.

2. SCRUB the area in question (where the lower intake, heads, and block meet in the corners) with a nylon brush and degreaser. Rinse well.

3. Start the engine, run for 5 minutes to evaporate the water. After 30 minutes of cooling, wipe the area with an alcohol soaked rag to make sure you got all the oil residue.

4. Patch the area with hi-temp RTV sealant. Since this isn't a pressure leak, it should hold.
