Default please acquaint me with my new friend

im sure youve read one of my four posts or so which say ive recently acquired an ssei.

never have owned a supercharged car before, im unsure what level of maintenance and so on is needed. id rather have someone here punch me in the face for appearing stupid than cause damage to any part of my engine as a result of my lack of knowledge.

so what do i need to know?

already known: premium gas.

thats about it. supercharger oil change? how often? anything else i need to know? normal boost readings, etc.

ill get a vid of my gauges soon i think, ill post it and you guys can tell me if im driving a bomb. thanks to anyone who reads this and much more thanks to anyone who replies.

check air filter
recent oil change?
coolant level/color
condition of belts
find out average mpg after a few tanks of gas
factory boost i believe is 7-8 psi
temp gauge really shouldn't pass 200 degrees

thats a decent start

it'* so easy to change sc oil, just do it. Go to your local GM dealer, buy 2 bottles. Save a used spray bottle, unscrew squirter assembly, put bottom of straw into sc fill hole. squirt out old oil into bottle. fill. might not take whole 2 bottles, depends how much you get out and how much you move squirter straw around to get it to the bottom of sc assembly.

I like to change my SC oil once a year. GM states in the FSM to check it every 30,000 and fill if necessary.

Quick easy thing to change and have a fresh batch of additives in there.

Fuel.. yes.. highest octane unleaded you can get.

Only other thing you need to know is Torque Management is your enemy. (that'* the programming in the computer that pulls the power away when you stomp it from a dead stop.)

Beyond that..there'* only one other thing you should know.
The gas gauge is directly related to the grin on your face. Your grin is directly related to the pedal under your right foot. And so far...they keep producing more high octane gasoline every day, ensure you burn your allotment.

I see it didn't take you long to find the "Forced Induction" section....

All good recommendations above.

Also, most of us have removed the engine cover to let the SC disipate heat...might be a good idea for the Oklahoma summers.

Many have swapped out the 195* thermostat for a 180*. Some of us have drilled one or two small holes as well which allows coolant to flow immediately on start-up. From what I understand, this allows the engine, and hence, the SC to heat up more gradually.

Dex-cool? Again, many have fushed out the dex in favor of a less corrosive product...the Prestone Dex compatible seems to be popular here.

You also have a few extra vacuum lines to keep an eye on, espescially the T-fitting under the nose drive.

Other than that, for some strange reason, tires (espescially on the front) seem to wear out the tread fairly quickly (especially with traction control switched off)

Oh, and you will want to purchase plenty of engine cleaner and detailer....once the engine cover is off and you pop the hood , a magical force takes over that inspires you to keep that blower sparkling.

Enjoy.
