Noisy S/C gears?
Does anyone know of a manufactur that makes "noisy gears" for the supercharger on the these engines? I am talking about the gears that are cut straight across instead of at an angle.

The only parts you can get aftermarket for the SC is the seals, bearings, and coupler. All other parts are proprietary and can only be purchased from Eaton or Magnusson.....and they won't sell to you. Or me. Or anyone else.
What's the idea behind this? |
I thought the gears were cut straight... Are you talking about the gears or the rotors/vanes?
|
Yes, From what I remember seeing they are cut at an angle to make them run quiet.
|
Not sure about the M90, but the M62 is cut straight. dbtk2? Anyone else with a Series 2 that's been in there? Are the drive gears in the nosedrive of an M90 straight?
|
I could most be wrong. I am not entirely sure.
|
The gears in the M90 also appear to be straight.

Its been a while since we've had the nose off the blower, but IIRC they are cut on an angle, but they don't go to a point they are flat on the end.

I have been proven wrong about the gears. I still am looking for a gear that makes a little noise. Also why is it to get more boost everyone makes smaller S/C pullies? Why not change the gear ratio in the unit itself or better yet make a bigger lower pully. That one bolts on and off with no pullers. Would that not be the same thing as a smaller upper pully? Except you would not have to risk f'ing up your nose cone or buying an expensive puller that you may only use a couple of times. Just a thought.

Either one has the same end effect on the SC. It spins faster. |
