95 Bonneville SSEi
Gentlemen,
Recently I have begun to hear what I would call a bearing noise from the area in the nose of the SC where the pulley is. This only occurs when moving from cold to hot. Generally after about 5 mins of idle time. Driving you cannot hear it, however stopped at lights you can occationally hear it.
Is this a bearing problem?
Secondly, I have read the preferred vendors of SC'*.
Our preferred and trusted vendor is www.canadiansupercharger.com
CSC ALSO has 2 eBay profiles that they sell SC'* under. These are:
AmericanCharger and A1Supercharger
AmericanCharger and A1Supercharger both have a SC available fitting a 92-95 Bonneville SSEi. Would these be the correct one if I am going to need to replace the SC on mine?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Craig

Craig.. any chance of a video of the noise. Typically a coupler will make noise at idle and the bearings..well they would make noise all the time. The vid could help us pinpoint the issue.
It is possible that the waterpump or alternator is making the noise. You may want to try a long screwdriver up to your ear or a stethescope. Both work well for transmitting/amplifying noise to determine the cause.
It is possible with a grease gun and a press to rebuild your existing charger much cheaper than buying one.

BillBoost37,
An heavy duty (CAT) mechanic & I have taken a stethoscope to the SC. The sound we both agree appears to be coming from where the Pulley Nose Housing and the Main Body Housing join. Again sometimes it is there, but when it is. It is as described as above, and it was loud enough to get my attention. This noise also appeared after moving from Reno/Sparks, NV to the Los Angeles, CA area.
I have denoted a decrease in fuel mileage as well, but I have attributed that to the crap CA gas. I only run Premium 93 Octane, and run Mobil 1 engine oil.
We have check the waterpump and the alternator out, both "quiet" and within normal operating noises.

Sounds like you covered it well. On the noise..the only oddity is when it'* occuring and that it isn't a constant.
I would suggest rebuilding the nose or replacing the charger.

Just to be sure its not the coupler, take the belt off and spin the pulley with your hand. If there is any slop, the coupler is bad. If not, the bearings or something else is wrong.

Thank you gentlemen... I have been in contact with Brian at American Superchargers and he has also given me some insite as well.
Only question not answered: Is there a sealant or gasket between the nose cone assy and the main housing of the SC?

I don't think it came from the factory with any, but after you crack open your charger, you need to put the nosedrive back on with a thin bead of red GM gasket maker. Same holds true for the rotor plate to the housing if you remove the rotors.
Edit: Here ya go...

No more than this:
That was my first one about 4 years ago. I use a little less now. Use a torque wrench during assembly.

I don't have the part number off hand..but if you got to any GM dealer and ask for Red Gasket Maker they will know what you are talking about. Get the small tube and use sparingly like the picture posted by Dillcc.
