Until you realize you can't put a big enough clutch in. At least that'* my problem right now.

Clutches are available if you want to drop about $600 for one. Up to 550ft.lbs. IIRC. Its a PITA to slip them though...they're either grabbing or not.

Manual tranny in a Bonneville? Someone here has guts.

I figure it'* mated to the 240 hp 3900, so a Series II L67 should treat it just fine (yeah yeah torque differences bla bla...)

The max my LN3 could produde probably is around 240 or less, so I don't think it'll be an issue.

Without straying too far off topic and please split if necessary..

F14.. the torque is a huge factor. And I doubt that I have yet to ride in a S2 that had an honest rating of 240hp. GM was known to underrate motor power by a good margin.

You'd want to beef up the trans before putting it in.

Yeah but...

Series II L67 has been mated to the 2.8L Getrag 5 speed in like Fieros and a Trofeo I know of and hasn't blown up. I know there'* plenty of Fieros. less weight to move in a Fiero versus a Reatta or Bonneville, but um, oh well

Then, from another post, figure in GM'* safety factor is making trannies to reasonably take double the power that the motor they're mated to produces...

Oh well doesn't work when someone has invested a bunch of money to make the conversion happen and GM didn't necesarily build in that kind of safetly into the transmission. In the 96+ bonne'*..they added Torque Managment programming to hold the engine back from giving the tranmission more power than they wanted it to receive.

Hmmm, true. Long term reliability would be an issue
