Hello All,

This is my first post here, and a new member since this morning... I bought my 93 SSEi a couple of days ago, and have been reading through the forums...

I've come to understand that I've got a problem with the BCS, or the 'valve' as GM apparently labels it... I followed the bypass procedure listed elsewhere, and determined that the blower is making plenty of boost, so I suspect the problem is either the BCS, or with the signal too it, which I assume is direct from the ECM.

When I asked the local parts dealer about it (only using the term 'Boost Control Solenoid' at the time, which didn't get me far with him) we finally came up with the part number 12353309, which he said was discontinued. When I came back to the computer, I searched the part number, and believe that it is indeed the correct part. I've seem SOME discussion that leads me to believe that the Series II BCS (part number 1997244) will work, but I'd like confirmation before I buy it.

So, to sum up, can someone please tell me if the Series II BCS (1997244) will work on a Series I engine, originally equipped with a 12353309?

If you need the BCS, RockAuto has them pretty cheap at $18.

Thanks for the suggestion, and no disrespect intended from a newb to the forum, but the link you posted seems to refer to the pigtail for the solenoid, not the solenoid itself, and I don't see a listing for the solenoid...

I don't mind mail ordering parts, but I was hoping to pick up this item from the local dealer, thus the question about the crossover...

Well, I'll add the answer to my own question, so it'* searchable in future..

The BCS (or supercharger bypass valve, as the dealer calls it) listed for 96+ will indeed work for the Series I 3800 in a 93 bonneville SSEi. I received mine from the dealer today, installed it, and am happy to report that my bypass is working as it should. The connector on the solenoid is the same as the pigtail, so it plugs right in.

The only thing to note is that the solenoid bracket needs to be bent an additional 90 degrees to fit properly... nothing more than thumb pressure needed to bend the bracket appropriately, so that the plastic engine cover will snap back in place.

I have a 95 Riviera with a BCS problem similar to yours. Now that you have had the replacement BCS (the "relay") installed for several months, how is it working?

just fixed a car at the shop using the info posted here 93 buick park ave ultra check engine light used to come on as soon as u drove in reverse now it stays out after the repair thanks guys
