Default 20w50 supercharger oil?

ok, ive read the tech info and the manuals on the changing of the sc oil. and all of those say to use delco part # ....

but an old timer told me that he uses and has used for many years, fully synthetic 20w50. according to him it is the same as the "fancy" oil you buy at the dealer.

is there any truth to this?

*note- i am by no means recomending or plan to use 20-50 in my sc. im just curious.

No no no no no no no. Absolutely not. The supercharger oil our Eatons use is specially designed for them. It is specially formulated, and absolutely nothing else should even be put in there.

GM SC oil isn't synthetic either. It'* made partly of animal fats. Not at all synthetic. Maybe other SC'*, like a old GMC or Weiand use motor oil.

well he was old school, i think he said he had a blown stroker bb. so maybe that would make a little more sense in that.

Only use GM Supercharger oil in your */C. it'* too expensive of an investment to screw up by following someone else'* advice.

Here'* the part # #12345982. You'll probably need 2 bottles

Samuel...

I mirror the use of SC only oil. For the amount of cost versus the possibilities of problems, it'* best.

On your sig.. the 97 is an L36 or an L67?
