I think that switch is on the car, where the latch is located for the door. Usually under it.

i don't think it is under latching point of the body, could it be apart of the door latching assembly inside the door??

Every door has a switch inside the door on the latch. The front doors also have a switch on the door handles. All the switches work by grounding at the infamous ground buses on both the driver & passenger side. Start by checking the ground buses. See Techinfo>electrical>other.

Now you'll have to check the switch in the driver'* door. I think the switch is open when the door is closed & closed when the door is open. Just unplug the switch & see if the light goes out.
