Default Theftlock Feature.

I disconnected the battery yesterday when I was wiring my Angel Eyes. I just remembered today that my radio would be Locked since I had enabled the Theftlock on it. So I'd have to rememeber the code I pressed in before.

However I checked to see if the radio was locked, and it wasn't, which was good, but still not what the manual said would happen. The only thing that changed between the time I disconnected the battery was the code I set in before was erased. So all I had to do was set a new code. Pretty easy.

But this means if someone stole my radio it would probably operate, which it'* not supposed to do. Not like it would matter.

Anyway, just something I noticed. Not a big deal or anything. I was just wondering if the reason it did not Lock is related to the fact I have never been able to disable Theftlock before. I'd follow the direcions to disable it, and it would never work.

Does the Theftlock LED blink when you have the ignition off?

Actually, I have had a similar fear...I bought the car used and the theftlock was set...now I am not sure how to unset it if I ever need to because I don't have the code the previous owner put in. :?

my car had theftlock enabled on it too and I disabled it easily without knowing the code or doing anything too special. It works as long as you havne't lost power yet and the radio hasn't been removed yet. You have to do the steps you would follow to setup a code for the radio, but instead of putting in a code when it asks, don't do anything for 15 seconds. It will automatically cancel because it'* idle and it will erase the old code. I think that'* how I did it on my riv, it'* been a few months and I no longer have hte stock radio to verify this.. I could always try it on our SSEi I suppose.

1994-1999 bonneville stereos will work as long as the theftlock is disabled or you know the code.... The 00 ans up bonnies use the Vin code from the car.... Strange ain't it..
But what the heck is the point of the theftlock at all if it is just the vin...all the thief would have to do is write down the number.

Jr'* Correct you need a tech 2 scan tool. Here'* the procedure from GM.

Radio Setup
Complete the following procedure, using a scan tool, in order to properly set up communication:

At the Main Menu screen, select: Diagnostics.
At the Vehicle Identification screen, select the following options:
Model Year
Passenger Car
At the System Selection Menu screen, select: Body.
At the Vehicle Identification screen, select the appropriate model.
At the Body screen, select: Radio.
At the Radio screen, select: Special Functions.
At the Special Functions screen, select: Radio Setup.
At the Radio Setup screen, press ENTER (The following test will set up a new or existing radio).
Verify that the scan tool displays "Test in Progress."
Verify that the scan tool displays "Test Completed Successfully."
Press EXIT on the scan tool and cycle the ignition.

Important
The radio set up will configure the following systems:

Steering Wheel Controls
LEARN VIN
Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Class 2 Radio Messages
Without learning the VIN, the radio will display a locked message (LOC).

You never know. There are a lot of crackheads in the city here. But I'm getting a CD player soon, so I hope that doesn't get stolen. Hopefully one with a detachable face.

Yup, it does now. I just set a new code and it'* blinking again. But just to see what happened, I tried all the time to disable Theftlock months ago, following the steps in my manual, and I was never able to disable it. Not that I really WANT to disable it, but it didn't work for some odd reason.
