Default Temp. Control Unit for 00+ models

Hey

So its about 85 degrees outside and i decided to put my a/c on. I had a post ages ago but deleted it...it didnt make any sense.
Have any of the 00+ owners had an issue with the "Bi-Level" button on the SE control unit. Its the one that goes to the floor and Mid area.

Mine just doesnt work. Defeats the purpose of wearing shorts, i might get better air flow to the floor with a small electric fan from the dollar store.
thanks

Can you elaborate on what you mean.

Air only goes to vents or floor...never both.
What does the air do on the various settings. (trouble shooting requires this info)

Go to that link, you will see my climate unit, the second button from the top right is the button i am talking about.

When i press the button nothing happens. All other buttons work correctly. It just seems weird to me that in my 1992 it had a Bilevel but in this one they didnt do it.

Ok.. it does nothing meaning... no air blows at all?

Really need you to help us help you. We understand you press the bi level button, but what actually happens? If you have the floor selected..does it stay at the floor. If you have the vents selected..does it stay at the vents. Or..does it do nothing as you mention and airflow stops completely.

Being a written forum.. you will need to type out more detail of what you are thinking and observing for us to be up to speed with you.

hey sorry about that, i was in a rush this morning to get out the door. clearly the BC is more important than work some days

Let'* say i am using the floor vent button. If i were to press the Bi button, air flow will stay on floor. Same thing if i am on all other vent choices. its like the climate control ignores the fact that im pressing the Bi button. Air flow never stops at all.

Are you saying that regardless of which button is depressed, the air flow is to the floor? Do the indicators change when the buttons are pushed?

All of my buttons work properly, except the midlevel button.
If i had it on vent and wanted to switch to midlevel, air would stay on vent mode and ignore my pressing the button. If i were on floor/defrost and wanted to go on midlevel, the air will flow from floor/defrost, and ignore the midlevel button i pressed. no air what so ever flows from midlevel. the button will not light, air will not come out, it simply does not respond and just leaves the air flow on the current selection

Does the bi-level button seem harder to push, or react differently than when you push the other buttons, other than the obvious doesn't work? If so, check for any binding of the switch with the surrounding trim. If that seems fine, it may be time to pull the control panel and check the connections.

this is getting just ugly :(

I took apart the unit. cleaned off the connections and tested them...no change in its behavior. then i said to myself.. self, check the back of the unit'* connection.

The female end (on the climate unit) has a burnt/char on one of the little contacts. Like if anyone has seen a copper pipe that'* aged, thats the look.
Coming from the car, that plug, has the same exact mark on the corrisponding connector. All of the other like 32 contacts are bright gold and looking normal

this is a no good very bad day.
